What is a bunco squad?
“Bunco squad” is old police slang. It describes a team or department of
investigators dedicated to fighting fraud, con games, and anything else
meant to deceive.
What is the BuncoSquad? (aka, BuncoSquad.net)
The BuncoSquad.net website is provided to share tips and tricks of the
freelance trade. This is sometimes called “consulting” or “independent
contracting.” Anything that means, “being a small shop and selling your
services.”
We share experiences (ours and those of colleagues) in the hopes that
people won’t have to stumble over those same potholes. Like a true bunco
squad, we aim to dispel myths and uncover truths about the freelance world.
Hence, our motto: Busting freelancer myths.
Our articles are aimed at technology freelancers, but some of the content
is generally applicable to anyone running a business.
Who is BuncoSquad?
That’s classified.
BuncoSquad is a collective of technology professionals who occasionally
post articles to this site.
We don’t reveal our names, nor those of clients or individuals we
encounter. Part of it is the fun factor, we admit — it adds to the
detective theme — but the anonymity also makes it easier for us to share
these tales.
What’s with the name change?
What name change?
I mean, what happened to the old Lacmedia site?
We had to shuffle the old LACMedia crew to a secured bunker, for their own safety.
What makes you think you’re qualified to dole out such advice?
“Advice” is too strong a word, and if you see it elsewhere on the site,
please take it in a casual sense (”something that we found to be a good idea for
our situation”) and not in the strict legal sense (”something we, as
professionals, have told you to do”).
Per our
legal guidelines,
we are not responsible for anything you do (or don’t do) as a result of
reading something on this site.
I did something mentioned on this site, and I got in trouble. Why can’t I sue you?
